Job Description:
Reporting to the Associate Director of Design and Technical Services, the Electrical Engineer is responsible for the planning, leadership and management of Electrical Engineering.

Duties

Provides senior level electrical engineering design, oversight and mentorship to technical staff; design will include typical Electrical Engineering scope for buildings design; power, lighting, fire alarm, telephone and data systems
Works with Trades & Operations to provide technical support to the work they do operating our buildings
Works with standing and adhoc committees to ensure when project scope is being defined that electrical considerations are included; these committees or groups include Faculty representatives.
Responsible for working with Electrical Technologists to ensure effective communication and articulation of client’s requirements, budget, schedule, and operating constraints
Participates and manages the electrical portion of building evaluations; evaluation teams may consist of design staff, trades staff, facilities management staff and external consultants.
Works with Supply and Material Services to develop preferred supplier arrangements; work will include writing and evaluating technical sections of requests for qualifications
Provides input and advice to project budgeting processes, scope development reviews to enable project funding and approvals
Develops and works with team to maintain a comprehensive method of tracking physical changes to electrical systems
Liaises with the Associate Director to ensure proper accounting and budgeting is maintained
Responsible for management of assigned project design budgets both for work completed by internal technical staff and external Consultants.

Qualifications:

University degree in Electrical Engineering; eligible for membership in APEGGA and eligible to be designated as a responsible member for a Permit to Practice
2-5 years of progressively more responsible Engineering experience that includes experience with several challenging projects
Full working knowledge of related codes: Building, Electrical, Fire, Architectural, IEEE
Leadership of technical staff and creating a positive and productive work culture
Knowledgeable of best practices; remains current and up to date on technical specifications and requirements
Effective communication skills with both technical and non-technical staff
Has an understanding of capital project budgeting and able to assist the Department with development of projects for inclusion in capital plan
Has working knowledge and experience in sustainable design practices.
